Life Story of the Organic Matcha
Like regular green tea, matcha comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. The difference, however, is how it is farmed and processed. The plants grown for matcha are shade-grown for about 3 weeks prior to harvest, and the stems and veins are removed during processing and then finely ground to a powder. When consuming, this matcha powder is dissolved in water.
We love the flavour of matcha but we also love the health benefits. Because our matcha is made from high-quality organic tea, and the whole leaves are ingested, it’s a more potent source of nutrients than steeped green tea. In addition to providing small amounts of vitamins and minerals, matcha is rich in antioxidants called polyphenols, which have been tied to protection against heart disease and cancer, as well as better blood sugar regulation, blood pressure reduction, and metabolism boost. Matcha creates an “alert calm” due to a natural substance it contains called L-theanine, which induces relaxation without drowsiness.
